TOUR #826 – Crane Roving and Fly-In with Dr. Gary Ivey #1

TOUR DESCRIPTION

If you have never had the opportunity to visit with Dr. Gary Ivey about Sandhill Cranes, you won’t want to miss this tour. Join Gary on a bus ride around the Delta to see cranes feeding in the fields. Possible stops include Woodbridge Road and the Woodbridge Ecological Reserve. This roving tour will eventually end up at the Cosumnes River Preserve or other location to watch for the evening fly-in. If you are looking to increase your knowledge about Sandhill Cranes, in a small group setting with the opportunity to ask questions, this tour is for you.

Dr. Ivey works with the International Crane Foundation as a Research Associate and is an expert on Sandhill Cranes in the Pacific Flyway. He has worked with wildlife for over 40 years, concentrating his work on waterbirds, waterfowl, and wetland conservation. He studied nesting ecology of Sandhill Cranes for his Master’s Thesis and wintering ecology of Sandhill Cranes for his PhD, both from Oregon State University.

This tour is conducted aboard a small bus with multiple stops throughout the route. Participants must be able to board and exit the bus several times during the tour by climbing several steps. Walking is minimal and limited to short distances over possibly uneven dirt and gravel surfaces at each stop. You may also need to stand for extended periods.
