DESCRIPTION:TOUR DESCRIPTION\nJoin Sandhill Crane behavior expert\, Paul Tebbel\, on a bus ride around the Delta to see cranes feeding in the fields. Possible stops include Woodbridge Road and the Woodbridge Ecological Reserve. This roving tour will eventually end up at the Cosumnes River Preserve or other location to watch for the evening fly-in. If you are looking to increase your knowledge about Sandhill Cranes\, in a small group setting with the opportunity to ask questions\, this tour is for you. \nPaul Tebbel\, has spent over 45 years watching\, researching\, and learning about cranes. He studied Sandhill Cranes as an undergraduate in Michigan and researched Sandhill Cranes in central Ontario for his Masters’ Thesis. Paul managed National Audubon’s Rowe Sanctuary on the Platte River in Nebraska from 1995-2006. A familiar presence at the Lodi Sandhill Crane Festival\, Paul has also led field trips and given presentations throughout the western United States\, including New Mexico’s Festival of the Cranes at Bosque del Apache NWR. \n  \nTRANSPORTATION\nCharter Bus \n  \nWALKING DISTANCE & TERRAIN\nThis tour is conducted aboard a small bus with multiple stops throughout the route. Participants must be able to board and exit the bus several times during the tour by climbing several steps. Walking is minimal and limited to short distances over possibly uneven dirt and gravel surfaces at each stop. As the sun rises\, cranes leave their overnight roosts in the wetlands and fly to nearby fields to feed. Their distinctive rattling calls and large flocks taking flight make for an impressive start to the morning. \nLed by crane expert Paul Tebbel\, this tour offers an opportunity to learn about Sandhill Crane behavior\, migration\, and conservation while observing them in their natural habitat. Depending on weather conditions and crane activity\, the group may also travel along Woodbridge Road to watch cranes feeding in the surrounding fields. \n  \nTRANSPORTATION\nPersonal car \n  \nWALKING DISTANCE & TERRAIN\nThis tour is fully accessible and requires limited physical effort. This tour requires the ability to stand for at least an hour if no seat is available. \n  \nLAND PASS\nYes \n  \nNOTES/INSTRUCTIONS\n-Early morning conditions can be cold\, damp\, and foggy.
